Doing our bit to encourage the STEM leaders of the future, working with the all-female PPS Vexers team at Portobello Primary School.
We are proud, thrilled and delighted to be supporting some of the bright young sparks at Portobello Primary School in Birtley as they prepare to compete in the VEX GO challenge.
The PPS Vexers is a girl-powered team who are making great strides in the world of robotics education – learning to problem solve, innovate and gain invaluable experiences that will help them thrive in their future careers.

As part of our sponsorship of the PPS Vexers we’ll be helping to fund them as they develop the robots they’ll take to competitions over the course of the year. And we’ve also kitted them out in some cool new merch… because who doesn’t like a hoodie?!
I don’t understand. What’s this all about?
If, like us, it’s been a good few years since you last wore a uniform and walked the halls of a primary school then you may not be aware of some of the incredible initiatives now going on in classrooms to get kids tech-savvy and capable of coding.
VEX GO is one of these programmes being adopted by schools around the UK. As the programme blurb states, it’s a “STEM construction system that taps into children’s natural inquisitiveness”. Just as exciting is the fact that children can put their skills to the test and get their competitive juices flowing from the age of 8.
At Portobello Primary School (PPS), the dedicated teachers support children to get hands-on with robotics and coding to build their understanding of engineering and technology. In recent years, VEX GO teams from PPS have regularly attended regional and national competitions at the likes of Nissan in Sunderland.
Our sponsorship of the girl-powered PPS Vexers is important because the STEM programme relies on donations of equipment, time and resources in order to progress projects and attend competitions.
You can find out more about the incredible work being done at PPS here.
Special thanks to Workwear Central for helping us to provide these cool hoodies (as modelled by the team and their new mascot, Steven Brumbill (Atom Account Director). And not forgetting the kind folk at Gateshead Central taxis who will be providing event transport for PPS Vexers over the coming year.
Stay tuned for more updates in 2025 as we follow the girls’ progress.
